Leap Year How small steps can make a giant difference Helen Russell Books Reviews
- I really enjoyed this book. The wit, the fantastic narration, and the research supported changes she tries all add to the book.
- I really enjoyed this book. Funny and thought provoking. Highly recommended. I'm looking forward to more books by this author.
- I found Leap Year to be a fantastic read in two ways first it's hilarious. The characters in the book are vivid and achingly familiar. My wife and I read this book at the same time and were constantly telling each other how much Russell's stories of the challenges of family and friends reminded us of our own friends.
Secondly, it just makes your life better. Leap Year is packed full of advice gleaned from scientists and experts but it's written in a way that never feels preachy. I used the lessons from Leap Year in my work, with my friends and even in my relationship (helped that the wife read it too!). I'd highly recommend this to someone who wants to make their life better but wants to laugh along the way. - Helen Russell has yet again put on display her candor, self-deprecating humor, and insights into human behavior in response to life changes in this fun filled book. Helen tackles the everyday life issues we all face, like how to communicate more effectively with a spouse and with our children, how to learn more about our own needs, and what is and is not really important in our daily lives. She does this all with her unique sense of humor, taping into the wisdom of outside experts for suggestions and guidance to help her navigate through these common, yet challenging daily life concerns. This book is enjoyable and fun in every way, plus you might just discover a thing or two about yourself and how to gain control of your own life, or at least how you feel about it, while taking the journey along with Helen.
- If you like "A Year of Living Danishly" then you need to pick up "Leap Year." Helen Russell's journalistic skills and just plain good humor will keep you turning the pages. So many helpful tips and insights on our complex world. I read a library copy, but wonder why isn't carrying the paperback edition and only third party vendors are. I notice you cannot purchase it at B N either... so the U.S. market is having a hard time getting a copy. Perfect book for helping those with decisions that hold them back from taking the next step in their journey. I cannot wait for Helen's next adventure into the complicated reality of life.
- I'm a huge fan of Helen's witty and informative writing style from her first book, "The Year of Living Danishly". LEAP YEAR reminds me what I love about her storytelling. You learn valuable information from her research and new perspectives via her characters and interview subjects, but it's delivered in a relatable way. In this new book, she delves deeper into practical real-life questions of what we really want out of our lives, and how to handle decisions big and small. If change scares you, if you have big decisions on your mind, or if you feel "stuck" in any part of your life, this is a thoroughly enjoyable way to get the courage you need to move forward.
- I listened to this after listening to her first book, The Year of Living Danishly which I also enjoyed immensely. This book is all based on making change, whether its about relationships, money, jobs, fitness, happiness, where you live, etc. It is all based on research and has some great pointers. I think I need to buy the hard copy so I can actually highlight some of the passages and try them! The only thing is she left us hanging as to where they ended up moving if at all!
